Happy Post V-day

I hope everyone recovered from their spectacular Valentine’s Day extravaganzas. Those of you who were lucky enough to get out of it, Mr. “[Fill in the Blank City] is too far away”, I applaud you for doing so. It doesn’t make you any more of a man, just a little less of a girl in my book.

I spent my V-day (Not V.E-Day or V.J-day, although B.J-Day would be a much better V-Day present to me) with the new GF, obviously. I booked a table at The Grand Café on the 56th floor of Jin Mao Tower. Jin Mao is famous for being the 5th tallest building in the world (for now) and known for hosting the highest hotel on the planet. I would say that Valentine’s dinner at Jin Mao could be compared to dinner at the empire States building (if that’s allowed). Pretty romantic, and pretty fucking simple.

When you are on the 56th floor, its all about the view (according to them), so I made sure to book a table by the window. They invited me to the restaurant the week before to make sure the table was acceptable, because it was facing PuDong and not PuXi. I honestly couldn’t give a fuck, I’ve seen the view so many times. The GF really wouldn’t care either, nice restaurant, decent view, never been there before…I was in the clear.

The real reason I chose this place was that they have all-you-can-eat King Crab legs. And I knew I would make my money back on the crab and the oysters, for sure. The funny thing is, I had no problems dropping $200 on dinner (probably because I was going to enjoy it too) but when it comes to buying flowers, I’ll be damned if I am going to pay premium price for something like Red Roses. I’m sure those of you that had to do the whole Valentines Day got stuck dropping $29.99 on a dozen Red Roses, maybe you used CouponMountain and got a free vase. I on the other hand, wasn’t gonna pay more than $10. And I didn’t. I ended up negotiating with the flower “shop” (I use shop loosely here because it’s like a drink-stand/Flower shop/DVD store. Really f-ing weird). At first she wants like $2 a flower for these long stem roses, which I am having nothing of. She then tries to get me to buy the Blue ones. Blue roses? Go fuck yourself. So I see a dozen red roses, already made into a bouquets and ask how much those are. I think that she says $12 for each flower, and I laugh and ask her “For each one!?” and she says, “no, total”. Then I realize she said, what is equivalent to $9.90 for the whole dozen. I’ll take it!

Next year if you want flowers and it’s getting late (~7pm), try and negotiate if they have flowers left. No one is buying red roses on the 15th, so they have to get rid of their inventory. And honestly, they only last 2-3 days anyway, it’s such a waste. I say just cruise over to my parent’s house, they have like 8 rose bushes, and bring my dad and mom a beer. They’ll just GIVE you the roses (and maybe some food)!

I’m off to Beijing this weekend, so I wont hear the Vidal Hazelton news until I get back. That kid better sign with the Trojans, or..or..or..he must sure like blocking as a WR. PSU can suck-it.
